People Get Emotional When They Learn The Identity Of A Nun Who Stopped To Cry At Pope Francis’ Coffin

Although millions of people are part of the Catholic faith, there are many who don’t really understand much about what goes on behind the scenes. This includes what takes place during the death and election of a new pope, part of which is for the Pope to lie in state.
After Pope Francis died, his body was in state at St. Patricks and many came to visit. There was one particular moment, however, that took many by surprise.
On April 23, a nun was passing by the casket of Pope Francis when she stepped out of line to remain beside the coffin. As others continued to move along, she lingered in a sign of farewell and sobbed. The moment went viral.
There were many who had questions about the gesture as well as the nun who showed it. Now she has been identified, and we recognize that the two had a friendship that had lasted for decades.
When one viewer saw the video, they spoke about how it was a ‘genuine pain’ they also said it was a historic moment.
Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the man who would eventually become Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21 when he was 88 years old after a stroke. Catholics around the world mourned his death and over 48,000 visited St. Peter’s Basilica to pay their respects.
Many bishops, cardinals, and clerics were there along with other Catholics, including the nun who was waiting in line. As she passed, she stepped away from the rest and positioned herself beside the ropes outside of the boundary. Many would consider this to be a breach of protocol.
The 81-year-old nun from the order of the Little Sisters of Jesus is Sister Geneviève Jeanningros. She was born in France and of Argentine descent and she was a personal friend of the Pope.
They had been friends for more than 40 years and had a mutual respect for each other. Jeanningros and the Pope had something in common, as she had dedicated herself to offering support and guidance to the less fortunate. She also stood by members of the LGBT+ community.
